The Cathedra Fossilis is a chair made of a fossil specimen from the Anthropocene.
The fossil demonstrates a symbiotic relationship between nature and synthetic, where decomposing wood is preserved by
polyurethane resin, while the polyurethane resin is reinforced by the wood.
The frame was designed in order to display and preserve the specimen, while also offering structural support. It was cut and TIG welded out of stainless steel.
Cathedra Fossilis was inspired by petrified wood; a century-long geological process in which wood is fossilized,
and its material properties are changed while its original structure remains.
